Manchester United have always had extraordinary players in their team, such as Sir Bobby Charlton, as the older fans recall or in the era of Sir Alex Ferguson, David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Ole Solksjaer to Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo. The biggest name on the bench, along with Sir Alex Ferguson for sure was Sir Matt Busby.
Sir Matt Busby won the first Champions League for the Red Devils in 1968 at Wembley. The next two were the masterpiece of Sir Alex Ferguson in 1999 and 2008. The one in 2008 was especially dramatic. Manchester United won it on penalties against their big rivals, Chelsea in Moscow.
In the next two finals, they didn’t have much luck. They lost in 2009 and 2011 both to FC Barcelona at Wembley and in Rome respectively.
Manchester United had their debut in 1956/57 season, they reached the semifinal, where they were eliminated by Real Madrid.
One of the best Uefa Champions League matches for Manchester United was when they played the final game at Wembley in 1968. They won against Benfica 4-1.
One of the moments that all Manchester United fans remember happened in Moscow, in 2008 when Cristiano Ronaldo missed from the spot. But thanks to Edwin Wan der Sar the trophy ended in Sir Alex Ferguson’s hands.
In 2009 and 2011 Manchester United lost to the same team in the finals. Barcelona with Pep Guardiola on the bench was a better side, beating them with 2:0 and 3:1. Manchester United will be looking to win the trophy this season, will you be there at Old Trafford or at one of the away games.
